The allure of “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett has always held a special place in my heart. Despite the challenges posed by dyslexia, this novel was a beacon of joy in my childhood; its pages transported me into a different world. It was one of the rare narratives that kept my attention, its words weaving a tale of enchantment that mirrored the magical refuge I found in my grandparents’ backyard—a personal secret garden where reality seemed malleable and anything felt possible. In re-imagining the cover and chapter pages for this treasured book, I aimed to encapsulate the mystical wonder that captivated me upon my first encounter with the story. I sought to create a visual representation that would evoke the same sense of awe and curiosity that the original cover sparked in my younger self. The design is a blend of the familiar and the fantastical, intertwining elements of the garden I cherished with the imagery Burnett’s words painted in my mind. The cover features a bright, glowing garden that seems almost alive, inviting the reader to reach out and touch the leaves to feel the texture of the tree bark. Each chapter page has imagery from the text. This project is more than a redesign; it’s a homage to a story that taught me the power of perseverance and the beauty of finding one’s own slice of paradise amidst adversity. It’s a tribute to the secret garden we all hold dear—those places of solace that help us bloom.
